Offering this gorgeous and rare antique black bear coat in excellent
condition! This appears to date from the early 1900's possibly as late as
1940's? It appears to be entirely hand made. Lined in a taffeta type of
material, and very well constructed, it would fit a medium sized woman, I am
5'4" and about 135 lbs and it fits me nicely with a bit of extra room. Would
also fit a teen. This is extremely heavy, the hair is like the day it was
tanned, not losing hair at all when you handle it. In the sun, there's a slight
red sheen to the hair. It's very soft for bear hair as well. There is no damage
that I can find. Measurements are: shoulder seam to shoulder seam 20" to 21"
across, Arms from top seam to the cuff are 24", arm pit to arm pit across the
chest 22", Length from shoulder seam to bottom is 38" to 39". These
measurements were taken while the coast was buttoned up and lying flat on a
table. It has two front (not side) slash pockets lined with a heavier black
cotton for durability. It is fully lined with the taffeta fabric and has
taffeta two straps that run to buttons on the inside in addition to the outer
blind" buttons (don't show on the outside when buttoned up) down the front.
There is a sturdy sewn in strap at the nape of the neck for hanging on a hook.
The collar is hide/hair both on the top side and underneath making it double
thick and super warm around the neck area. This is a beautiful piece for
display and I would not hesitate to wear it on the coldest of days! I'm a rider
and can imagine how warm this would be out on the trail or ranch on the coldest
winter days, you would never feel the wind in this! I am not honestly sure this
was ever worn. The pictures don't do it justice, it's absolutely stunning! This
will ship by FedEx fully insured and I am always open to reasonable offers,
especially once a listing has been up for more than a week. Local pick up is
always an option with all of my listings.
